🛢️ Tank Volume Calculator

Our free tank volume calculator helps you quickly calculate the exact capacity of water tanks, oil tanks, and industrial storage tanks. Choose from multiple tank shapes including vertical cylinder, horizontal cylinder, rectangular. Simply enter your tank dimensions to get instant and accurate results in US gallons, UK gallons, liters, and cubic meters — no sign-up required.

🛢️ Tank Volume Calculator

The Tank Volume Calculator is a powerful utility designed to compute the total storage capacity and current filled liquid volume of various tank designs. Whether you are managing industrial fuel storage tanks, home heating oil cisterns, water tanks, or agricultural liquid containers, this tool provides precise volumetric values across multiple standards.

💡 Why Use It

Checking storage tanks typically involves taking a linear depth measurement (dipstick). However, converting linear depth to liquid volume is mathematically complex—especially for horizontal cylinders where the volume does not scale linearly with liquid height. This calculator handles all the complex geometry instantly, ensuring accurate inventory records and preventing dangerous tank overflows.

📊 What You Get

After inputting dimensions and current fill depth, the calculator computes:

  • Liquid Volume (Filled): The exact volume of liquid currently stored inside the tank.
  • Dry Volume (Remaining): The remaining empty capacity of the tank.
  • Total Tank Capacity: The absolute maximum storage capacity.
  • Fill Capacity Percentage: A visual fill bar showing how full the tank is.

All calculations are provided in four common units: US Gallons, Liters, Cubic Feet, and Cubic Meters.

🚀 How to Use It

  1. 1.Select the shape of your tank from the top tabs (Horizontal Cylinder, Vertical Cylinder, or Rectangular Prism).
  2. 2.Choose your input dimension unit (Inches, Feet, Yards, Centimeters, or Meters).
  3. 3.Enter the requested dimensions (e.g. diameter, length, width, and/or height).
  4. 4.Input the current liquid fill depth.
  5. 5.Click the Calculate button to compute results.

📐 Geometry Calculations & Formulas

1. Rectangular Tank Shape

For a rectangular box tank of width $W$, length $L$, height $H$, and liquid depth $d$:

  • Total Volume = $W \times L \times H$
  • Filled Volume = $W \times L \times \min(d, H)$

2. Vertical Cylinder Tank Shape

For a vertical cylindrical tank of diameter $D$ (radius $R = D/2$), height $H$, and liquid depth $d$:

  • Total Volume = $\pi \times R^2 \times H$
  • Filled Volume = $\pi \times R^2 \times \min(d, H)$

3. Horizontal Cylinder Tank Shape

For a horizontal cylindrical tank of diameter $D$ (radius $R = D/2$), length $L$, and liquid depth $d$:

Total Volume = $\pi \times R^2 \times L$

When liquid depth $d$ is less than $R$, the liquid volume is calculated using the area of a circular segment:

Filled Volume = L × [ R² × acos((R - d) / R) - (R - d) × √(2Rd - d²) ]

When depth $d$ is greater than $R$, we subtract the empty segment area at the top from the total volume.
